A soup kitchen at a Mount Vernon church has been forced to temporarily close after thieves stole thousands of dollars worth of food and supplies twice in one week.

Organizers at the Sacred Heart Parish food pantry say thieves made off with water bottles, sandwiches and $1,000 in cereal during the most recent break-in. The printer, fax machine and scanner were stolen during the previous robbery, organizers said.
