Chez Kama in Great Neck gets the salad right
Three cheers for Chez Kama in Great Neck, where, at last, a decent green salad is served at a Japanese restaurant.
The one to order features chopped field greens, hearts of palm, a fan of avocado and pickled beets for $8.50. The citrus vinaigrette is a welcome relief from the orange-colored ginger dressings so carelessly served with a cold mound of iceberg and an unripe tomato at most sushi places.
A main-dish special last night featured lemon sole on sticky rice with shaved asparagus, a fish dish that hit the spot. The restaurant, much improved since its last review six years ago, is kind of hidden away in the heart of town behind heavy draperies. It features other fusion dishes, including Cajun tuna, Thai bouillabaisse and a smoked salmon warm onion tart. No bargains on this a la carte menu, which also features sushi and specialty rolls.
