This Sunday, the internationally-influenced fare of Peru will be on display at the Long Island Peruvian Cuisine Expo, to be held in Freeport from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 online, and $20 at the entrance, which is in the Village of Freeport parking lot No. 4, N. Main St. between Broadway and Randall Ave.
Cooking demonstrations will be in both Spanish and English. At 12:15 p.m., Cesar Alonso Bellido, sous chef of La Mar Cevicheria in Manhattan, will demonstrate how to make seviche. Then, at 3:15 p.m., Peruvian celebrity chef Javier Ampuero, the host of Oh! Diosas, a popular cooking show in Peru, will be doing something creative with quinoa.
Food for purchase, at $5 to $12 a plate, will be sold by vendors representing Peruvian restaurants from the local area, among them Inti Restaurant in Hicksville and Las Perlas Restaurant in East Meadow.
The event is co-sponsored by Noticia, a Spanish-language newspaper headquartered in Baldwin and APEGA, a major Peruvian culinary association.
