The Long Island boys tennis championship match scheduled for Tuesday afternoon between Cold Spring Harbor and Half Hollow Hills East has been postponed because of rain, and may not be rescheduled as officials from both Section VIII and Section XI continue to work out differences regarding how each team will be allowed to construct its lineup for the championship match.

Nassau and Suffolk teams abide by different rules when structuring their lineups for each match during the season, and coordinators and coaches from both sections have yet to agree on a standard format for the Long Island final.

In 2011, the Long Island girls tennis championship was not played because of a similar dispute.

If the boys final is rescheduled, it likely won't be held until next week at the earliest, according to Nassau boys tennis coordinator Barry Kubit, since the individual singles and doubles state championships begin Thursday and last through Saturday.

Hills East has seven players competing at the state championships, while Cold Spring Harbor has three.

“Hopefully we can come together and play next week,” Kubit said.
