It was a long and impressive run, but both Long Island Lutheran's Boogie Brozoski and North Babylon's Brianna Jones came up just short of making the USA Basketball Women's U16 National Team.

Out of the 132 players from across the country who were selected to tryout, Brozoski and Jones were among the final 43 to survive the first three rounds of cuts and participate in all seven trial sessions from Thursday through Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., but were not on the final 12-player roster that was announced this morning.

The USA Basketball Women’s Development Committee invited 32 players to tryout and accepted 100 others through a competitve application process. Brozoski and Jones were  two of those 100 applicant athletes who were accpeted to participate at the team trials and were ulimatley among the 12 applicant athletes who made the top 43.

USA Basketball Communications Manager Jenny Maag said before the team trials that it was unlikely that an applicant athlete such as Brozoski or Jones would make the final roster, but surviving until the final day of cuts would increase their chances of earning an invitation to tryout for the U17 National Team next season.

The U16 team will compete at the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championships in Cancun, Mexico from June 19-23, with the top three teams at that tournament qualifying for the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championships.
