25 wrestlers from Nassau and nine more from the CHSAA will be competing for a chance to be called the best in the state this weekend at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Two wrestlers from Nassau County who have previously placed at the state tournament will be competing in 2013: Dan McDevitt of Wantagh and Robert Person of Bellmore JFK. McDevitt finished fifth at 138 pounds last year and has made the jump up to 170 pounds as a senior. Person took fifth in the 2012 tournament at 113 pounds, but won the Nassau County championship at 120 pounds this season.

McDevitt is one of four county champions from Wantagh this year. The others are Kyle Quinn at 106 pounds, Vinny Turano at 132 pounds and James Corbett at 182 pounds. Chris Aroaz -- also of Wantagh -- finished third in the county but earned an at-large berth at 126 pounds.

Island Trees (Tom Sinclair, 220 pounds; Chris Donnelley, 106 pounds) and Syosset (Vito Arujau, 99 pounds; Dan Choi, 195 pounds) are the other Nassau schools to place two competitors in the tournament.

In the CHSAA, St. Anthony’s had six winners -- John Twomey (106), Ben Lamantia (113), Joe Russ (120), Fred Dunau (126), Nick Alessandrini (145) and John Vrasidas (170) -- who will compete in Albany. Chaminade, which won the team championship, had two winners: Declan Gray (152) and Dan Fowler (195).
