A top aide to former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg will join the Mets.
Haeda Mihaltses was named as the Mets’ executive director, external affairs, the club announced Wednesday. In her newly created role, Mihaltses will be the “main liaison with city, state and federal officials and oversee relations with community stakeholders,” the team said.

The Mets have signed veteran pitcher Kyle Farnsworth to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major league spring training, the team announced Monday.
Farnsworth, a 37-year-old righthander, is 43-64 with a career 4.26 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 960 innings.

Darryl Strawberry made the rounds at Super Bowl Radio Row on Tuesday to talk about the the Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center, which is scheduled to open outside Orlando, Fla., in March.

The Mets and Bobby Parnell have avoided arbitration, agreeing to a one-year deal, the team announced on Friday. Parnell will earn $3.7 million in 2014 and can earn an additional $50,000 if he appears in 60 games, Joel Sherman reported.
Parnell, 29, isn't eligible for free agency until after the 2015 season.

The Mets have signed catcher Taylor Teagarden to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major league spring training, the team announced Monday.
The 30-year-old has played in just 163 games over the course of six seasons in MLB with the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles. He's a career .206 hitter with a .266 OBP, 20 home runs and 63 RBIs.

The official tally will be revealed Wednesday at 2 p.m., but it appears that, for the second year in a row, Mike Piazza will miss out on election to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Piazza received 57.8 percent of the vote in 2013, falling short of the 75 percent threshold for election.

Research by Baseball Think Factory shows that Piazza's Hall of Fame case is picking up steam in many of the ballots revealed by voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Players must get 75 percent of the vote to be elected to the Hall. Piazza received 57.8 percent of the vote in 2013, his first year of eligibility.
