HARTFORD - With the federal government partially shut down, Sen. Chris Murphy's office estimates that furloughs are expected among the state's 9,000 federal employees.

Passport offices in federal buildings will be closed.

Social Security checks will still be sent out, but no new or replacement cards will be issued.

The shutdown will not affect Tuesday's rollout of President Barack Obama's health care act.
