Victim of 9/11 attacks on WTC identified

Officials have identified the remains of a 49-year-old man killed during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, it was announced Monday. But officials said the identity of the victim will not be released at the request of his family.
The news brings the number of WTC victims identified to 1,638. It was announced by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for New York City. A total of 2,753 people were reported missing as a result of the Sept. 11, 2011, attacks on the center.
Three victims died outside of New York City.
A total of 1,115 victims have not been identified to date, the medical examiner's office said.The identification announced Monday was made "by retesting of remains recovered during the original recovery" effort at Ground Zero, according to the statement. The method used to identify those remains was not immediately clear.
