October 2007 Winner

Congratulations to Mrs. Carolyn Fredericks of Calhoun High School in Merrick. She was nominated by one of her students for Newsday's Teacher of the Month Award. Here's what her student Andrietta had to say about her:

"I would like to nominate Mrs. Carolyn Fredericks for teacher of the month. Mrs. Fredericks is a wonderful reading teacher and she doesn't make anyone fall behind in their work. She is always there to help me in any way possible. She is very dedicated to her students as her students are to her. Every morning she comes to class with a smile on her face and eager to help the students learn. Her skills are to bring the students reading up by the time they are seniors. She spends many hours after school to help students with their reading skills. The object of this reading contest is to read the most books in the month. The book are high interest and low vocabulary. At the end of the contest Mrs. Fredericks invited everyone who participated in her reading contest to Applebee's in Bellmore."
