All Things Considered, January 21, 2008 · "Action — not words" was the unofficial theme of Monday's commemoration of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta.
Hundreds of dignitaries attended the annual service to hear a call to service in honor of the slain civil rights leader.
Two former Arkansas governors were there: Mike Huckabee, taking a break from his presidential campaign, did not speak at the ceremony, but former President Bill Clinton did.
Clinton said King's vision made possible a presidential race that includes a Baptist minister, a Mormon, a black man and a woman.
