2003: Julie
Andrews Directs
"The Boy Friend" in Sag Harbor
In August
2003, singer and actress Julie Andrews made her directing debut
at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor. The production, which
starred Tony Roberts, was "The Boy Friend" – the
same musical in which Andrews debuted on Broadway in 1954 at age
18. Her daughter, Sag Harbor resident Emma Walton Hamilton, is
the founder and co-artistic director of the theatrical production
company. Andrews and her husband, Blake Edwards, also have a house
in Sag Harbor. "The Boy Friend" subsequently toured
nationally. Andrews, who gained national prominence in "My
Fair Lady" on Broadway, starred in many films, including
"The Sound of Music," "Mary Poppins," for
which she won an Academy Award, and "The Princess Diaries."
She has also appeared in numerous television productions and has
written or co-written 15 children’s book with her daughter.
Andrews is shown here in 1998.
