YONKERS - The SPCA of Westchester is asking for the public's help in solving one of the worst cases of animal abuse in years.

Officials say a 7-month-old pit bull/lab mix was discovered emaciated last week, stuffed inside a suitcase filled with feces and urine, outside the Mount Vernon animal shelter.

Doctors say the dog should have weighed over 60 pounds based on his age and breed but only weighed around 16 pounds. ?He was so weak, he couldn't stand up. He couldn't walk. He couldn't hold his head up. I've seen a lot of emaciated dogs, this is by far, the worst I've seen without a doubt," says Dr. Megan Caulfield.

Director of Humane Law Enforcement Ernest Lungaro is hoping that a note left in the suitcase, signed by someone named Emily, will help them find the abuser. "We want to contact Emily. Maybe she saw something, maybe she's a Good Samaritan. We just don't know," says Lungaro.

Officials are asking anyone with information on the case to their confidential animal cruelty hotline at (914) 941-7797.
