LONG BRANCH - A 23-year old man was shot and killed by an alleged gang member this morning in Long Branch, and the victim’s father was a witness to the crime.

Adrian Anderson, 23, died when a fistfight escalated into a gunfight.

He was shot five times outside his aunt's house at 315 Liberty St. in Long Branch and his father, David Byrd was an eyewitness.

Byrd says his son had been at the house to help his aunt and got into an argument with a group of what Byrd says were gang members.

Byrd says police responded two separate times to break up the fight, but after police left, the shooter returned and killed Anderson.

Anderson was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center and was in surgery for six hours before succumbing to his injuries.

Police have not announced any arrests.

Anderson is survived by two young daughters.

The murder in Long Branch comes 24 hours after a shooting in Asbury Park. In that case, a 30-year-old man was shot six times. He's hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
