Two men and a woman were in custody Friday night after robbing an Ardsley bank, police said.

Ardsley police were called to the Wells Fargo bank at 921 Saw Mill River Rd. at 3:07 p.m. after a man walked in, approached a teller, and said he had a bomb.

The teller handed over cash and the man bolted, heading south once he was out of the bank, Lt. Anthony Piccolino said.

The suspects may have evaded capture if not for a sharp-eyed detective, who saw the trio in a charcoal-colored Chevy Impala acting nervous near the bank, Piccolino said.

When the suspects realized they were made, they peeled away, leading police on a chase on Saw Mill River Road until the driver lost control of the Impala, went off-road and got the car stuck in a ditch, Piccolino said.

Cops caught the female suspect near the car, which was in a wooded area near Exit 12 of the Saw Mill River Parkway. The two men were able to evade police for a few minutes, Piccolino said, but both were eventually caught -- cops caught up to one of the men in Hastings, and the other in Yonkers.

Cops recovered a bag with the proceeds from the robbery in the car. Cops declined to say how much was stolen, but did say all the cash was recovered.

Despite the threats of the suspect who actually collected the money at the bank, Piccolino said none of the three were armed.

As of late Friday night, two of the three suspects were in FBI custody, Piccolino said. Police did not release the names of the suspects, and said they were still figuring out whether to charge them with state or federal offenses.

The difference depends on where the resulting investigation might lead, he said -- if authorities believe the trio was responsible for other bank robberies, they'll face federal charges. If the investigation indicates Friday's bank robbery was an isolated incident, the trio will likely face state charges.

Cops from Yonkers, Hastings, Greenburgh and the Westchester County Police Department assisted Ardsley police and the FBI with the investigation.
