YORKTOWN - A baby girl was born on the southbound shoulder of the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown today.

The child was born near the Bear Mountain Expressway exit at about 9 a.m.

Police Lt. James Luciano says he was on his way to work when he noticed what appeared to be a disabled car, so he pulled over to see if the driver needed help. He then realized it was a livery cab with a pregnant passenger about to give birth in the front seat.

Luciano says he calmed down the mother, who had been on her way to Hudson Valley Hospital Center to deliver her baby. Luciano got the mother situated properly, and assisted in delivering a healthy baby girl.
