SEASIDE HEIGHTS - While the boardwalk fire in Seaside claimed close to 50 businesses earlier this month, the Beachcomber Bar managed to survive and reopen today.

On one side of the Beachcomber, Seaside Steakhouse was destroyed. A clothing shop, paintball business and a few game vendors were destroyed to the north side of the bar. Amazingly, the Beachcomber was able to escape relatively untouched.

Owner Michael Carbone credits the bar’s reliable sprinkler system for saving his business.

Electrical concerns kept the bar closed since the fire, but a state inspector issued a temporary permission to open for two weeks while small repairs are completed.

Carbone says he'll cooperate with construction crews and the municipality as they demolish the destruction around him and rebuild.
