The restaurant scene in Bethpage is rife with change. Now, Watawa Sushi & Lounge has opened in the former digs of Sumou, which lasted less than a year before closing. Prior to that, the space was occupied by Ozumo, another Japanese restaurant.
The sleek-looking Watawa offers an all-you-can-eat option for $21.95 Monday to Thursday and $23.95 Friday to Sunday. Order from a special menu of...Read more »
The Asian-fusion trendlet continues with the opening of Otaki Sushi in Garden City Park, just east of New Hyde Park.
Otaki Sushi offers the familiar array of sushi and sashimi, teriyakis and tempuras, traditional and more exotic sushi rolls. But the kitchen also prepares colorful fusion fare such as an eggplant "cha cha" roll, garlic-butter oysters, Cajun pepper tuna salad, and tuna-mango...Read more »
The new 212 Sushi Lounge in Rockville Centre takes over the former digs of Chichen Itza, a short-lived Mexican restaurant. The space has been entirely gutted and renovated, said Jeff Foroglou, who co-owns the new dining spot with Barry Huang, a partner at Aji 53 in Bay Shore and Smithtown.
The menu, said Foroglou, covers a lot more than sushi. It lists crispy rock shrimp tempura ($9), oysters...Read more »

What differentiates this place from the Plainview original is the presence of six hibachi tables. And there’s also separate seating for 100, said manager Louis Lin.

A restaurant with the unlikely name of Casa Asia recently took over the downtown Massapequa space that, for years, housed China Royal. Now, the place has a spare, contemporary look — and a sushi bar. Of course.
Yet despite the restaurant’s nomenclature, which employs the Spanish and Italian word for “house,” nothing on the menu evokes Europe or Latin America — unless, of course, you count...Read more »
Flying vegetables and clanging knives are part of the draw at K60 Japanese Steak House, which makes its home in the Lake Grove strip mall space that once housed Curry Club.
Here, you can opt to sit at one of eight communal tables in a hibachi room as you watch chefs demonstrate their showmanship with filet mignon ($22.95), scallops ($19.95) and chicken ($16.95), to name a few choices.
Or,...Read more »
The new Hazuki Japanese Fusion is secreted away in a corner of a Glen Cove strip mall. It occupies the former digs of Hundred Roll Sushi, next to the Chase bank.

Nisen, the glittery and contemporary Japanese restaurants in Woodbury and Commack, will welcome a third location soon, at the site of the closed Barolo in Melville.
Barolo opened about 15 years ago, transforming what for approximately the same span had been Herrmann's Black Sheep, turning an old-fashioned continental into an Italian and sometimes New American spot.
Nisen...Read more »
