Christiano’s in Syosset, the pasta-parm house long debated to have been the inspiration for Billy Joel’s “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant,”  finally closed on Monday. Syosset has bid addio to Bronx Pizza Company, situated on a stretch of industrial area along Robbins Lane, just off the Long Island Expressway.

The pizzeria-pub opened in 2012 and was owned by the Zilla family, which has culinary roots in the Bronx’s Arthur Avenue. In addition to pizza, it also featured house-baked bread, hand-cut fries and, initially, house-smoked barbecue.

Energy Kitchen, a Syosset eatery on Jericho Turnpike, has run out of steam. The place was geared to low-cal healthy eating and opened in 2012 as the first Long Island branch of a New York City chain.

Now, it seems, the entire operation has gone under. A message on the Energy Kitchen website states, “We have made the difficult decision to close all of our NYC and Long Island locations.”

I nearly made a screeching U-turn in the middle of Jericho Turnpike in Syosset this afternoon after seeing the sign in front of the Asian restaurant once called Empire Szechuan Gourmet. Last year, the restaurant had morphed into Tao, which, more recently, had change its name to Dao. Challenges from another dining spot with the same name was one reason given for that change.

Now comes the latest...
