Life on Long Island

Halloween (and the power) is on at Nutty Irishman

Before even considering heading anywhere, keep in mind the roads are still in terrible shape. Downed trees, downed wires and damaged pavement currently combine with heavy power outages, creating treacherous conditions Islandwide that require using the utmost of precautions while driving.

That being said, people searching for a place to hang out should know: the Nutty Irishman in Bay Shore is open for business.

With most Long Islanders currently without current at this moment, and many also recovering from property damage, the idea of partying at a sports bar may seem outlandish – but having a respite from electric-less frustration can also provide a nice break, and on Tuesday evening (Oct. 30), this large, bi-level club, pub and lounge was open and powered up – and additionally, more than willing to share some juice. Customers were invited to use the ATM, the free Wi-Fi and to power up their cellphones (bring your own charger) – all amenities that, at this moment in time, are not so easy to come by. Of course, ‘Nutty is always a stop for nightlife, so anyone looking for something social to do last night (and something brightened by wattage rather than flashlights and candles) also had the opportunity to play in some trivia tournaments.

As for today, (Wednesday, Oct. 31), the doors will again be open for lunch and dinner (dine-in or takeout; there is also ice for sale), with free Wi-Fi still available. And, being that it is Halloween, the Nutty Irishman will spice up its already popular weekly Wednesday country night by turning it into a hoedown/ costume party – so if you love the idea of line-dancing while dressed in your haunted best, this could be a good spot to consider. DJ Ben E spins, and there will be a $1,000 in cash and prizes. For more information check out thenuttyirishman.com and facebook.com/nuttybayshore.
