Life on Long Island
Hamptons party powered by the sounds of Joel
When it comes to celebrity-spotting in The Hamptons, catching rock and roll Hall of Fame member, musical icon and native Long Islander Billy Joel going about his day is not all that rare. Performing his music live however is not something he’s regularly doing, but for fans of “The Piano Man,” there is an opportunity coming up this weekend to catch a proper tribute to his signature sound and catalog — and it’s not just to entertain, but also for a charitable cause.
On Saturday, Aug. 18, the Michael J. Fox Foundation’s Team Fox and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is throwing a bash at East Hampton Studios (75 Industrial Rd., Wainscott, 631-965-0050) that features a musical homage to Billy Joel by Danny V’s 52nd Street Band. The city-based troupe has been covering Joel’s music for close to two decades, touring both locally and nationally, and employs a full, six-piece crew. Starting at 7 p.m., the night will also include cocktails and food (provided by Carlyle on the Green of Bethpage State Park’s “Carlyle Off The Green”), and will be hosted by model Julie Henderson and Hollywood film star Sean Young (“No Way Out,” “Blade Runner,” “Stripes”). Host committee members include reality TV star Ramona Singer (“The Real Housewives of New York”) and movie actor/ Plainedge-native Steve Guttenberg (“Cocoon,” “Police Academy,” Short Circuit”).
Tickets start at $150; for purchase and further information, go to easthamptonstudio.com. (The site lists Mike DelGuidice and his band Big Shot as performing, but Danny V’s 52nd Street Band is the slated act.)
