Roast beef and cheese sandwich? Check. Sliced green apples? Check. Mac and cheese? Check. Milano cookies? Check.

Note for lunchbox? Not so much.

You can write one for your child to discover at school while chowing down on his midday meal, or leave it to the experts. One of the latest inventions in the there's-a-product-to-meet-almost-any-need category is Lunchbox Buddies ($3.99 for a pack of 20 at http://lunchboxbuddies.com).

Meant to be colored, collected and traded, the notes feature a "Goofballs" or "Space Cadets" creature, each with a name and a fun message of the day. "I'm lost! Which way is Mars?" was my 8-year-old son's favorite. (It, by the way, is supposed to be uttered by a three-eyed martian named Oogle.)

Lido Beach-based Say Please has just expanded its Lunchbox Love line. The cards usually feature trivia; now there are jokes. There are also new volumes for the holidays, which include Halloween, Christmas, Hannukah, Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. The set for all holidays is $24.92 from sayplease.com. A full year's worth of notes is $47.84; a half-year is $24.92; individual packs are $2.99 for 12 cards.
