Five things you need to know about the NFL right now:

1. The Saints expect Sean Payton will iron out any contract issues and remain with the team next year and beyond. “I absolutely expect Sean to be our coach next year and going forward,” said general manager Mickey Loomis, who returned yesterday after an eight-game suspension over the team’s alleged bounty program. “These contract issues will be resolved.”

2. The Eagles could be without another starting offensive lineman. Right tackle Todd Herremans suffered a foot injury on Monday night against the Saints and he’ll get further tests today. But the prognosis doesn’t look good.

3. Jake Locker could be ready to return for the Titans. The second-year quarterback is almost fully recovered from a shoulder injury, which is about the only good news for a team still reeling after a 51-20 home loss to the Bears.

4. Mike Shanahan insists he’s not throwing in the towel, and he said as much to his players before they left for their bye week. After Sunday’s home loss to the Panthers dropped Washington to 3-6, Shanahan appeared to indicate he was ready to evaluate players for next season and see who “is going to be on your football team for years to come.” But he clarified those remarks and said that’s not what he meant, and that he’s not giving up on the season.

5. Bears star cornerback Charles Tillman might not make Sunday’s game against the Texans because of labor pains. His wife’s labor pains. She’s due to give birth any day now, and Tillman said he’d miss the game if she went into labor on Sunday. “The wife is due any day, so hopefully this baby can stay in until after the game on Sunday,” Tillman said in a television interview. “I hope she stays in – I’m having another girl. Monday, for sure, but if she comes Sunday, I think I’m going to have to be at the hospital Sunday. So, I hope she stays in until after Sunday.”
