Avery out tomorrow, targeting Sunday for Ducks
Sean Avery just said his sprained right knee was not 100 percent and will "give it a couple more days" and expects to be ready to play against the Ducks at home on Sunday at 5 p.m.. He said he has come back early from shoulder and wrist injuries and in this case, "It's not Game 80, the guys are playing well and I'm sure they will come out against Washington and play a hard game." It will be his fourth straight regular-season scratch.
After some battle drills today, in which he participated for the first time since the injury on Sept. 21, Avery said he expects to skate hard after the team's morning practice tomorrow at Verizon Center and have a full practice on Saturday. If he plays Sunday, he said, "I'm not gonna favor anything. That won't be an issue."
Rangers coach John Tortorella later confirmed, begrudgingly, that Avery won't dress Thursday. Translation: The same lineup.
