Isles up 2 goals after a period
Isles take away a 2-goal lead after the first twenty minutes of play. Good fast-paced period, but not as physical as expected.
Only one fight so far--Micheal Haley and Brandon Prust. Haley caught one particularly nasty shot that left him bloodied near his eye (the blood is actually still on the ice).
Jon Sim struck first for the Isles--his second goal in three games--as he hacked away at his own rebound down low to give the team a 1-0 lead.
Matt Martin scored the Isles' second goal of the period, capitalizing on a puck that caromed off Cory Sarich's skate and was left dangling in the crease behind McElhinney.
Joel Rechlicz tried to fight Staffan Kronwall after a hit toward the end of the period, but the Flames d-man refused, turning his back to Rechlicz and skating to the bench.
***Something to keep an eye on: Micheal Haley and Staffan Kronwall have some history. Last year, Kronwall essentially Phaneuf'd (yes, I'll be using that as a verb for the near future) Bridgeport's Jeremy Colliton. Afterwards Haley went after Kronwall and broke his nose. So for all of you that say the Islanders are completely devoid of grit...not entirely true.
