Ken Davidoff's baseball insider
Yankees, Mets, trade rumors, free agents, off-the-wall predictions and other MLB musings.
Greeetings from Texas.
At yesterday's workout at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, while David Lennon wrote about the Rangers' offense, I wrote about Albert Pujols and the fact that he didn't face reporters' questions after Thursday night's Game 2.
We see this issue pop up every now and then; it did earlier this season with new Yankee Rafael Soriano. A common refrain in the yakosphere (trademark...Read more »
Well, I began this postseason predicting that the Rangers would advance to the World Series and lose...to the Phillies.
That fizzled after one round, so at the outset of the LCS, I maintained that the Rangers would advance to the World Series and would lose...to the Brewers.
Here we are at the Fall Classic, and the Rangers are here, just as we thought. And what the hell, I'm banking...Read more »
The reality of my job - and I suppose most jobs - is that not all assignments are fulfilled equally. I have more time to dedicate to some than I do for others.
For instance, I like doing a "How to Fix the Yankees" piece on the day that the Yankees' bigwigs hold their post-mortem at the Stadium. Last year, that occurred on October 25, and I took a car service from Yankee Stadium...Read more »
At the game, I wrote about Alex Rodriguez, who really hasn't looked like himself since, well, the first half of the season.
Of course, A-Rod wasn't the only Yankees hitter who struggled against Max Scherzer yesterday. But he was the only one whom the Stadium crowd booed.
And so have ourselves a series. Game 3 tonight in Detroit, with CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander each making his second...Read more »
First, we have new playoff brackets:
AL: Yankees (1) vs. Detroit (3), Texas (2) vs. Boston (4) or Tampa Bay (4).
NL: Philadelphia (1) vs. Arizona (3), Milwaukee (2) vs. Atlanta (4).
Thoughts: Well, since this is our lead item, let's just jump ahead, because we're going to tackle this morning Spadafore style.
News: The Rays defeat the Yankees, and the Red Sox lose to the Orioles,...Read more »
We're cheating today. No actual discussion-generating list. Rather, let's use today to catch up on a number of items.
1. The Yankees. They lost their makeup game in Baltimore, their second straight defeat to the O's, and now it's onto Anaheim, starting a three-game series tonight against the Angels, a team that's actually playing for something.
Derek Jeter said, in the story by...Read more »
Greetings from an absolutely beautiful night at Fenway. I had a long drive from the Hamptons to here, but gosh, did I enjoy taking the ferry from Orient Point to New London. Really cool, and the ideal day to sit outside on a large boat and enjoy a breathtaking view.
Just a few quick things, as we're getting close to first pitch:
--Derek Jeter is in the Yankees' starting lineup tonight,...Read more »
Greetings, everyone. Thoughts and prayers to any and all of you who were impacted by Irene.
I ordinarily pay less attention to action during my vacation week, and of course, that went double this time, what with pretty much everyone focused on other matters. So let's get up to date on the largest matters of the past nine days.
First of all, just one change in the playoff brackets:
AL:...Read more »
Veteran readers of the blog might remember that August 1 is a very important day here. It's the day, what with the non-waivers trade deadline behind us, that we start to look forward to the playoffs.
If the season ended today, these would be your playoff teams and seeds:
American League: Boston (1) vs. Detroit (3), Texas (2) vs. Yankees (4).
National League: Philadelphia (1) vs....Read more »
Good story this morning by Forbes' website, which reported that Fred Wilpon and Ray Bartoszek planned to meet today regarding the possibility of buying that much-heralded minority share of the club. A person in the loop confirmed that information to me.
So what's up with David Einhorn? There clearly has been some turbulence in the negotiations between Einhorn and the Wilpons. After all, the...Read more »
