Rex Ryan: Giants SB46 win isn't extra motivation

In this iPhone video, Jets head coach Rex Ryan shows his enthusiasm for the team and its future at the Long Island Association annual luncheon. Videojournalist: Kevin P. Coughlin (Feb. 15, 2012)

If Rex Ryan is seething inside after watching the team he doesn’t want to take a back seat to win Super Bowl XLVI, he’s sure hiding it well.

Ryan insists the Giants’ captivating run to their fourth Lombardi Trophy -- a trek that truly began in earnest on Dec. 24 with the Giants’ 24-19 win over the Jets – hasn’t added any extra fuel to his desire to make good on his countless Super Bowl guarantees.

“Nah,...

New York Jets' Santonio Holmes is escorted out

Santonio Holmes really isn't going anywhere now.

Since he's still on the Jets' roster today -- two days after the start of the NFL's 2012 waiver wide period -- $7.5 million of the wide receiver's 2013 salary is now fully guaranteed. That means the Jets are on the hook for at least $15.25 million guaranteed over the next two seasons with Holmes.

Holmes' $7.75 million salary for 2012 was...

Rex will be more hands on in 2012

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan ponders

INDIANAPOLIS – He’s no Dave Letterman, but Rex Ryan is making his own list.

Except his isn’t of the Top 10 variety. In fact, it’s nearly double that. Ryan has jotted down several things he feels he needs to get better at as a coach in 2012, something that’s even more necessary now after the way the Jets’ locker room fractured with the feud between Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes.

“It’s...

Dustin Keller wasn't sure how he was going to fare this week.

The tight end was about to come out of a monthlong hibernation and start answering queries about the Jets' chemistry issues that came to a head at the end of the season.

"I was a little nervous about it," Keller told me. I was like, ‘Ok, I have to answer all these damn questions.’ I knew I was going to have to address...

EDINBURGH, Ind. – Plaxico Burress is tight with Santonio Holmes.

So Burress has a good idea of the wide receiver’s inner workings and seems sure Holmes will bounce back from the ugly incident in the season finale, when some teammates felt he quit on the team in the Jets' loss in Miami.

“I know Santonio will be fine,” Burress told me after a NFL military outreach event at Camp Atterbury,...

Shaun Ellis compares the Jets and Patriots

New England defensive end Shaun Ellis, who spent 11 years with the Jets, said the Patriots are a no-nonsense type of team. Videojournalists: Mario Gonzalez, Robert Cassidy (Feb. 1, 2012)

If anyone is going to take a shot at comparing the Patriots and Jets, who better than Shaun Ellis, who spent 11 years with Gang Green.

The former Jet says he still keeps in touch with some of his former teammates and he holds no grudge that they didn't bring him back for the 2011 season.

Nick Mangold hasn't been besieged by a barrage of inquiries from other players at the Pro Bowl, wondering exactly went down with the Jets' late-season flame out.

"No more than what you would expect," the All-Pro center told me from Hawaii tonight. "I think most everybody kind of saw how everything went and had a pretty good idea of the different things that went on. I think...

DeGuglielmo named new O-line coach

The Jets have a new offensive line coach.

Dave DeGuglielmo, who was the Dolphins offensive line coach the past three seasons, has been named to the position, the Jets announced today. He replaces Bill Callahan, who left earlier this month to take over as the Cowboys offensive coordinator/offensive line coach after his contract expired.

DeGuglielmo's tutelage aided in left tackle Jake...

Belichick praises ex-Jet Ihedigbo

JAMES IHEDIGBO, Defensive back His parents moved to

Apparently the Patriots saw something in James Ihedigbo that Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan didn’t.

After four years with the Jets, Ihedigbo signed with the Patriots -- much to the delight of Bill Belichick.

“He’s had another solid year for us,” the Patriots head coach said of the safety/special teamer, who is an Amherst, Mass., native. “Came in primarily with a lot of experience in the...
