A Putnam County woman faces a charge of selling alcohol to minors after a Thursday enforcement sweep at stores in northern Westchester County, police said Thursday night.

State Police at Cortlandt said they sent a 17-year-old minor undercover to try to buy alcohol at 13 businesses. Twelve of the Cortlandt-area businesses refused to sell alcohol to the minor. Police said the minor was able to buy alcohol from Varsha Parkash, 47, of Brewster, working at Lou's Corner Store in Cortlandt Manor.

Parkash was charged with unlawfully selling alcohol to a minor. She was issued a ticket to appear Oct. 1 in Cortlandt Town Court. A phone call to Parkash on Friday morning was not immediately returned.

Police said no violations were found at the following locations: In Montrose, at Cole's Market, Post Road Deli, Montrose Deli and Montrose Beer and Soda; in the Cortlandt Manor-Mohegan Lake area, at Oregon Shell, 123 Food Stop, Oregon Citgo, Rock Cut Deli, DB Mart, Crompond Deli and Peekskill Wine and Liquor; and in Verplanck, Trail's End Deli.
