Bridgeport launches huge gun buyback program

City officials say they raised $100,000 for the event aimed at getting weapons off the streets.

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport officials today announced the city's largest-ever gun buyback program.

Mayor Bill Finch says $100,000 was raised for the event, which he expects to help get hundreds of weapons off the streets. He says the more dangerous and valuable the weapon, the more money the gun owner will get in return.

Officials say funding for the initiative is coming from public and private donors.
