Composites manufacturing conference Wednesday
The Long Island Forum for Technology will host its third conference focused on composites manufacturing Wednesday.
The event, which in the past touched upon broader topics related to composites, will have a different feel this year in anticipation of LIFT's new composites manufacturing center, which will open in October 2013.
"Because the facility is becoming a reality this year, we’re being very specific and really focusing in on what we can do now to help companies transition into this marketplace," said LIFT director Bill Wahlig.
The conference will feature three panels, each with experts to focus on composite manufacturing equipment, trends within the industry and ways to finance a foray into composites manufacturing.
Composites are materials engineered from two or more components, with the resulting composite being stronger and more lightweight than what it was made from.
LIFT's new center, to be based in Plainview and called the Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technology Innovation Center, will provide resources and equipment for local manufacturers to learn about composites manufacturing and develop composite prototypes.
The conference will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Morrelly Homeland Security Center in Bethpage. A networking session is included, and attendance is free of charge. Those interested in the event can register at lift.org.
