Green Turtle sports bar chain plans 10 locations on LI
A sports bar chain from Maryland is making Long Island the first market in a push to expand into New York State.
The Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grille -- a chain of 34 restaurants in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Washington D.C. -- has finalized a franchise deal to allow two Long Islanders to open up to 10 franchise locations in Nassau and Suffolk counties, the company announced Monday. The deal is the largest in The Greene Turtle's history.
The franchisees are Jeff and John Froccaro -- who also operate 38 Burger King franchise locations on Long Island under the Port Washington company Burger Brothers Restaurant Group.
The first Greene Turtle location will open early next year at 700 Hempstead Tpke., Franklin Square, in a space once occupied by the Boulder Creek Steakhouse.
The restaurant and bar also has plans to expand into New England states, as well as moving farther south into the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida. In New York, the operation hopes to expand into New York City and Westchester.
