Home Depot to hire 900 associates on LI for spring
Home Depot plans to hire 900 seasonal sales associates on Long Island in anticipation of a busy spring season, the home improvement chain said Wednesday.
The Long Island hires are part of more than 80,000 temporary employees the store plans to bring on board across the United States for its busiest selling season.
Seasonal workers are typically employed for about three months, and Home Depot hires about half of those workers for permanent positions, said company spokesman Stephen Holmes.
In November, Home Depot hired more than 2,000 temporary employees in the New York metropolitan area -- including Long Island -- and New Jersey as a response to a surge in business after superstorm Sandy devastated the region. The company originally planned to hire 500 associates in the area, but increased the numbers due to need, Holmes said.
"The impact of Sandy combined with the spring busy season has significant ramped out our needs for seasonal associates," he said, adding that most of the temporary employees hired after Sandy were still working.
