A national job fair that focuses on finding employment for military veterans and their spouses will set up shop in Farmingdale next  Wednesday, Aug. 14.

The fair, Hiring Our Heroes-Farmingdale, is expected to host more than 70 employers, ranging from small to large companies. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation,  the New York National Guard and the state Labor Department are among the sponsors.

Since Hiring Our Heros began in March 2011, it has held more than 570 fairs, and more than 1,200 employers have hired 20,200 veterans and military spouses, the chamber said.

The unemployment rate for veterans is 6.4 percent, considerably lower than the nation’s 7.4 percent, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show. But the rate doesn’t include those vets who gave up looking for work because they believed they couldn’t find a job.

The event will also include a workshop that offers one-on-one mentoring sessions on resumes, job searches and interviewing techniques.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Farmingdale Armed Forces Reserve Center at 25 Baiting Place Rd.
