Macy's mulling Thanksgiving Day opening
Macy's Inc. hasn't yet decided when stores will open after Thanksgiving, the official start of the holiday shopping season, the department-store chain's top executive said Friday.
Terry Lundgren, Macy's CEO, said he is still mulling when to open the doors. They opened at midnight Thanksgiving Day last year.
"I will never say 'never,'" Lundgren said when asked whether store openings would move closer to Thanksgiving dinner-time. "I want to do whatever customers and associates want."
Speaking to business journalists in Manhattan, Lundgren said he was pleasantly surprised that year-round employees of Macy's and Bloomingdale's were enthusiastic about manning the cash registers and fitting rooms at midnight Thanksgiving Day. "Our core associates want to be there early. They're excited, it's the start of the season."
