Vehicle Tracking Solutions announced Monday it has been selected by Jersey City, N.J.  to monitor its government cars and trucks.

The Deer Park-based company specializes in GPS tracking of vehicles to save money on fuel and maintenance, said founder John M. Cunningham Jr.

Vehicle Tracking has won contracts from Suffolk County and Babylon, Brookhaven, Huntington and North Hempstead towns, the Suffolk County Water Authority and various fire and ambulance districts. The company was started in 2002.

Jersey City Mayor Steven M. Fulop said, "With this program, we are creating mechanisms for accountability. Any employee who takes a city vehicle outside of city bounds or uses it for a purpose other than city business, we will know and we will discipline such behavior."
