A $5-million tissue factory is expected to open next year in Huntington, with the owners promising to employ 106 workers by 2018.
Select Products Holdings Llc wants to use 65,000 square feet of space at 1 Arnold Dr. to turn out toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissue, wipes and napkins. Production will begin next spring or summer, officials said.
Select Products is the brainchild of Simon Roozrokh, who said Thursday that he'd spent decades working for local papermakers. A year ago he decided to start his own company with four partners -- Justin Adelipour, Zoheir Aghravi, Hamid Darouvar and Siamak Khezri -- each of whom owns a 20.1 percent stake in the enterprise.
Roozrokh, the chief executive, said, "The paper goods industry is growing at an exponential rate . . . We hope to sell to discount stores and restaurants, and to produce private-label items for other companies."
He estimated that Select Products would have annual sales of $30 million by 2021.
He plans to hire 27 workers next year, followed by 43 in 2014. Wages, on average, will be $34,400 per year, records show.
The board of directors of the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency agreed Thursday to provide Select Products with $238,000 in tax breaks over eight years, primarily through a reduction in property taxes.
Agency executive director Anthony Manetta said it was important for government to support new manufacturers, which are rare. "These are brand-new jobs for the community," he said.
Select Products also is seeking assistance from Empire State Development Corp. and the state Power Authority, according to IDA records.
