Eight exceptional U.S. math educators honored as 2016 ICTCM Fellows, recognizing faculty who have indicated a sustained effort to use technology for teaching mathematics

Today, Pearson announced the call for proposals for its 29th Annual International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics (ICTCM) in Chicago, March 9-12, 2017. ICTCM is hosted by Pearson, a local host school, and a volunteer committee of respected mathematics and statistics educators and researchers.The conference agenda explores how digital learning technologies can be integrated within courses to improve teaching and learning.

Following the 2016 ICTCM, Pearson honored eight outstanding math educators from across the U.S. as ICTCM Fellows. Fellows are recognized for their sustained effort to use technology for teaching mathematics, and record of research, innovation, command, leadership, contributions and a long-term commitment to the ICTCM environment.

The 2016 ICTCM Fellows are:
-Shawna Haider, ​professor of mathematics, ​Salt Lake Community College, Utah
-Robert Lopez, emeritus professor of mathematics, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana
-Sarah Mabrouk, Ph.D., professor of mathematics, Framingham State University, Massachusetts
-Douglas Meade, Ph.D., associate professor and undergraduate director, University of South Carolina, Columbia
-Michael Pilant, Ph.D., professor of mathematics, Texas A&M University, College Station
-Antonio Quesada, Ph.D., emeritus professor of mathematics, University of Akron, Ohio
-Tom Reardon, professor of mathematics, Youngstown State University, Ohio
-Wei-Chi Yang, Ph.D., emeritus professor of mathematics, Radford University, Virginia

“The Fellows recognition honors excellence as well as extraordinary innovation in the use of technology to enhance mathematics instruction. The award recognizes educators who have reached a level of expertise achieved by only a few in this vital area of teaching mathematics,” said Annabel Cellini, senior vice president, strategy and marketing, Pearson. “We congratulate all of them.”

Originally focused on integrating graphing calculators in the late 1980s and various software products in mathematics instruction, the scope of the ICTCM has grown to embrace and promote many cutting-edge technologies used in colleges and universities, including analytics, mobile technology, applets, web development, computer algebra systems, programming languages, robotics, devices and 3D printing. The conference also has targeted sessions for research and teacher preparation having a technology component.

The deadline for speaking ICTCM 2017 speaking submissions is June 30, 2016.
