Online course offers educators strategies to use data to improve student performance
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 13, 2015
Knowledge Delivery Systems (KDS), a leading provider of strategic and blended professional learning solutions for states and school districts, in collaboration with TERC, an innovative non-profit organization focused on improving math and science education, has announced today its online course offering, “Using Data for Meaningful Classroom Change”. The course is designed to help educators become data literate in order to boost student achievement levels and outcomes.
The course presents educators with the strategies and tools needed to systematically evaluate and analyze student data, and subsequently implement and monitor action plans in order to improve student performance.
This three-credit course, delivered via the convenient and dynamic KDS ePlatform, will incorporate research-based, data-focused, continuous improvement processes, tools, and practices with topics and activities to include:
- Organize and analyze different layers of data to better understand students strengths and weaknesses
- Analyze student work to confirm findings from other sources of assessment and identify learning targets
- Explore, clarify, and prioritize causes of student learning challenges
- Use the short cycle action plan to monitor and adjust instruction
“Since 2001, the mantra of data driven decision making has been etched into the conscience of administrators because of No Child Left Behind. Sadly, few schools still effectively use data as a pathway for solutions to complex learning challenges in the classroom,” said Alvin Crawford, CEO of KDS. “Using Data for Meaningful Classroom Change is a cost–effective and scalable solution to help educators identify opportunities for growth and implement changes in their practice that can lead to personalized learning.”
“Building data literacy gives educators the confidence and hands-on training that are imperative to improve the quality of their instruction,” said Diana Nunnaley, Director of TERC’s Using Data Initiative. “This comprehensive course provides the framework that school districts need to develop a shared understanding of their students' data, which can lead to dramatic shifts in the school's culture and overall performance.”
