Filmmaker, Shequeta L. Smith, beat out thousands to become the only female director finalist in HBO's Project Greenlight.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2015

On a decade long journey to break into the elusive fortress known as Hollywood, North Carolina native, Shequeta L. Smith, made a giant leap forward by beating out thousands of filmmakers to become a Top 20 finalist in HBO’s newly revived “Project Greenlight” competition.

A comedy writer at heart, Smith submitted a laughable rap bio video in addition to a concept trailer for her upcoming feature film, “The Gestapo vs. Granny,” a comedy about a cranky senior citizen who repeatedly gets kicked out of retirement homes across the state. The trailer features a diverse cast of senior citizens sharing their grievances about the nightmarish Agnes Monroe.

As the only African-American, and only solo female director selected into the Top 20, Smith was excited about the possibility of advancing to the Top 10 but unfortunately fell short. However, HBO and the Project Greenlight Team enjoyed her project so much that they nominated it for Best Comedy in their inaugural 2015 Greenie Awards.

Smith’s concept trailer for “The Gestapo vs. Granny” is now playing on “HBO Now” under the Project Greenlight premiere episode for Season 4. The trailer can also be viewed on Smith’s “Rayven Choi” YouTube channel as well as Vimeo.
