Global education festival to be held at NYU
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 14, 2015
National Education Week, the annual education conference previously in Washington, D.C., has joined NYC-based EDGE, the premier education technology incubator, to create the global meeting point for the education industry. National Education Week -- now by EDGE -- will be held in New York City with NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development from December 15-17, 2015.
Unlike other education conventions and conferences, National Education Week by EDGE will resemble the international phenomenon Art Basel, assembling a highly curated set of education startups and innovators as well as the chance to hear from pioneers on the education frontier. The festival will include “TED” style presentations from luminaries in the field, “Shark Tank” style pitches from cutting edge entrepreneurs, and an “un-conference” where attendees solve real challenges facing universities, education causes, and edtech startups.
Attendees will have the opportunity to demo leading edge products, support cause organizations transforming the globe, and invest in the hottest early-stage edtech companies from around the world.
“We are thrilled to bring National Education Week to New York. NYC is home to over two million active students and has the largest hub of education institutions, publishing giants, corporate training departments, cutting edge researchers and investors in the industry,” said Jonathan D. Harber, Co-founder of EDGE. “We are confident that we can continue to develop and build a vibrant eco-system of education innovation that leverages our intellectual, financial and network capital to improve the world."
By including the reach and influence of National Education Week, EDGE will bring together leaders from education, government and business and harness the collective energies of entrepreneurs, school and university leaders, policymakers, investors, nonprofit leaders and educators themselves to improve teaching and learning.
“We believe that some of the world’s most challenging education problems need to be solved by innovative and disruptive agents,” said Don Burton, Co-founder of EDGE. “We have a unique opportunity in New York City to leverage the most extensive and powerful network and assets in the education and technology sectors to drive the highest impact, reimagining education.”
“As the country’s oldest school of pedagogy – founded 125 years ago – NYU Steinhardt’s history of excellence in education gives us a unique opportunity to build on our experience and to look ahead at what’s next,” said Dominic Brewer, the Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of NYU Steinhardt. “We’re pleased to host National Education Week at NYU, and bring together innovators focused on key issues in education.”
National Education Week by EDGE is sponsored and presented in collaboration with Tek Mountain, Rethink, Meister Seelig, Redwood Partners, IBM and Amazon Web Services. By galvanizing an eco-system of education innovation in New York City, EDGE aims to accelerate edtech entrepreneurs to tackle to world's greatest education problems. Co-founded by edtech veterans Don Burton and Jonathan D. Harber, EDGE runs an edtech accelerator, a 3-month intensive bootcamp for early stage edtech companies, a co-working community for the edtech community, classes on edtech, and now the National Education Week festival.
