Baltimore Ravens Offensive Lineman and Mathematician to Discuss the Dedication Required for Greatness during NACHA’s Payments System Awards Luncheon; Call for Nominations for 2016 Awards Now Open

HERNDON, Va. (PRWEB) November 03, 2015

NACHA—The Electronic Payments Association® announced today that NFL player John Urschel will keynote PAYMENTS 2016, the premier educational event for the payments industry, which will take place April 17-20 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Urschel will keynote the 2016 Payments System Awards Luncheon, which will recognize outstanding innovative achievements in the payments industry. Registration for PAYMENTS 2016 is now open and NACHA is currently accepting nominations for the 2016 Payments System Awards.

During this year’s awards luncheon sponsored by TD Bank, Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Urschel, who was dubbed “The Smartest Athlete in the NFL Draft” last year and nominated for Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman of the Year” in 2013, will discuss his upbringing and the life situations he had to face and overcome for him to understand the formula for greatness.

“Achieving greatness is an appropriate theme for the Payments System Awards luncheon at PAYMENTS 2016 during which we will recognize award winners who have reached the highest degree of achievement in the development, implementation and advancement of electronic payments,” said Janet O. Estep, president and CEO of NACHA.

“Personal and professional dedication and commitment will surely resonate throughout the conference as Urschel’s own accomplishments both on and off of the football field will no doubt inspire conference attendees to do their part to propel the payments industry forward,” Estep said.

A former All-Conference offensive lineman at Penn State, Urschel is one of the most unique and well-rounded players in the NFL. He earned an undergraduate degree in Mathematics after three years at the university, a Master’s degree in Mathematics after four years, and another Master’s degree in Math Education after five years – all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, teaching an undergraduate calculus course, and authoring a 32-page paper that was published in a prestigious scientific journal.

NACHA also will recognize 2016 Payments System Awards recipients at the luncheon. The George Mitchell Payments System Excellence Award, named after former vice-chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve George Mitchell, an early proponent of electronic payments, honors an individual or organization that has shown superior leadership in the development, implementation or advancement of electronic payments.

The Kevin O’Brien ACH Network Award, named in honor of the late Kevin O’Brien, NACHA’s 1999-2000 chair, recognizes best practices in ACH participants’ efforts to maintain or improve the quality of ACH services and/or the integrity and reliability of the ACH Network.
