Tanvas has been named a winner of the 14th annual Chicago Innovation Awards for its breakthrough in the area of touchscreen haptics, which allows you to feel what you see on a touchscreen.
The winners were announced at an event held at Chicago’s Harris Theater on Tuesday, October 27, with nearly 1,500 business and civic leaders attending. The Chicago Innovation Awards, celebrating its 14th year, is the Chicago region’s foremost recognition of the most innovative new products or services brought to market or to public service each year.
Tanvas’ surface haptics technology allows you, for the first time, to feel what you see on a touchscreen – the edges of keys, the snap of a toggle switch, the swipe of a turned page, the direction and magnitude of impacts in a game. The company is poised to change the way people interact with touchscreens across essentially every industry – from automotive to education, from retail to medical, from consumer electronics to industrial applications.
“We are proud to have been selected from more than 500 nominees for the award, and proud to be part of the innovation trend taking hold of in Chicago,” said Greg Topel, CEO of Tanvas. “Tanvas’ surface haptics technology is the next natural extension of the touchscreen and will bring new life to existing applications, while paving the way for profound new applications.”
“Local innovators continue to illuminate the Chicago region as a growing hotbed of creative activity that cuts across all sectors and industries,” said Tom Kuczmarski, co-founder with Chicago journalist Dan Miller of the awards. “Every winner of the Chicago Innovation Awards demonstrates how a unique solution to an unmet need can bring transformative impact in the marketplace.”
The winning organizations receive a variety of honors including the opportunity to ring the NASDAQ Bell in New York City, and meetings with the Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Governor Bruce Rauner and Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle.
