After the turkey, sides and pumpkin pie are finished on Thanksgiving, most people sink into a food coma and relax through the weekend. But for extreme couponers and holiday deal seekers, the end of Thanksgiving means the start of Black Friday.
The busiest shopping day of the year features massive savings on everything from electronics to clothing, and almost all of the local malls open at midnight, with department stores like Sears, Target, and Walmart opening as early as 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Here are the hours, deals and more at 12 Hudson Valley malls on Friday. Happy shopping.
Cross County Shopping Center: Visitors to this mall may have to brave a little cold to get a good deal, as many of the mall’s stores, including Macy’s, Gap and American Eagle are located on the outdoor plaza (8000 Mall Walk, Yonkers; 914-968-9570; crosscountycenter.com). The mall opens at midnight heading into Black Friday, with some stores, like Sears, opening even earlier. Special events include a prize booth from local radio station WFAS and strolling entertainers. If you need a break from shopping, Christmas classics like “Miracle on 34th Street” and “Elf” will play on a huge movie screen in the center of the mall.
Cortlandt Town Center: Technically not a mall, this shopping center features some must-stop spots for Black Friday deals, including Best Buy and Walmart (3121 E. Main St. Mohegan Lake; 914-526-4995). If you want the best deals, you may want to think about cutting your Thanksgiving celebration short. Walmart is opening at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving and will feature special sales throughout the night, including a 10 p.m. sale on electronics. Best Buy will open at midnight, but lines form outside well before the store opens, as tickets -- which are required for customers to purchase select and limited quantity items -- are handed out beforehand. Other popular stores in this shopping center include Old Navy, which will be open Thanksgiving from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and re-open on Thanksgiving night at midnight, and Marshall’s, which will open at 9:30 a.m. on Black Friday.
The Galleria at Crystal Run: The premier shopping spot in Orange County, this mall features popular stores, including Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, JCPenney and DSW (1 Galleria Dr., Middletown; 845-692-8883; galleriacrystalrun.com). Opening at midnight on Thanksgiving night, the mall features more than just doorbuster deals at its stores. Customers who buy three gift cards will have the chance to win an additional gift card for themselves valued at $25, $50 or $100. Although part of the mall, JCPenney will wait until 6 a.m. on Black Friday to open.
The Galleria at White Plains: Located in the heart of White Plains, this mall features more than 130 retailers, including Sears, Old Navy and Forever 21 (100 Main St, White Plains; 914-682-0111; simon.com). The mall opens at midnight, but Sears will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Shoppers will have the opportunity to enter an ongoing contest via text or a ballot picked up at guest services, which will give them the chance to win a $10,000 shopping spree.
Shoppers here may also want to stop by the nearby Target, which, although not part of the Galleria, will open at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving. The store will feature deals on electronics, and customers will get a $10 Target gift card for every $50 they spend between 4 a.m. and noon on Black Friday.

The Jefferson Valley Mall: This small mall in Yorktown Heights is often bypassed on Black Friday for some of the bigger malls, so it’s the perfect spot for someone who wants a less hectic shopping experience (650 Lee Blvd, Yorktown Heights; 914-245-4688; simon.com). The mall, which includes Charlotte Russe, Hollister and H&M, will open at midnight Thanksgiving night. Sears, which has its own entrance, will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving night.

Featuring almost every major store you can think of, including Target, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor and Best Buy, the mall will open at midnight Thanksgiving night, with select department stores opening on Thanksgiving evening. If the sales aren’t enough to bring customers to the mall early, the Palisades Center is also offering American Express gift cards, randomly valued between $10 and $100, to the first 300 people who line up at the customer service desk on the first floor, as well as a chance to win a grand prize $1,000 shopping spree. If you want to be in the mall for the doorbuster sales, you should plan on arriving early, as it can take some searching to find a parking spot even on a regular day.
The Poughkeepsie Galleria: From Forever 21 and Abercrombie to JCPenney and LOFT, this Dutchess County mall features stores to satisfy all ages (2001 South Rd., Poughkeepsie, 845-297-7600; poughkeepsiegalleriamall.com).
