Matchbox Twenty, Dave Matthews Band return with No. 1 albums
It's a good month for music in the Hudson Valley, with two local musicians releasing No. 1 albums in the past two weeks.
Matchbox Twenty’s new album, “North,” released Sept. 4, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart last week. Fronted by Bedford resident Rob Thomas, the pop-rock band's new album has sold 123,000 units so far and spawned the Top 40 hit, "She’s So Mean."
Thomas will also be popping up on the small screen next month, when he makes his debut as a celebrity mentor for Team CeeLo Green on NBC’s “The Voice.” Even though Thomas is advising Green’s proteges, perhaps he could find some time to help out fellow Bedford musician Collin McLoughlin, who auditioned on last night’s show and joined Adam Levine's team.
Dave Matthews Band's new album "Away from the World" tops the Billboard album charts this week, selling 266,000 units since its Sept. 11 release. Lead singer Dave Matthews, who spent part of his childhood in Yorktown, toured the Hudson Valley with his band this summer, making a stop at Bethel Woods in late June. "Away from the World" marks the sixth time a Dave Matthews Band studio album has debuted at No. 1.
