Vanessa Williams turns 50, set to star in new movie and play
While most celebrities would be shy to announce their age, Vanessa Williams proudly announced on Twitter that she is celebrating her 50th birthday today. Here’s the tweet from the Chappaqua resident:
Thanks for all the birtHday wisHes my fans. 50 is Fabulous!—Vanessa Williams (@VWOfficial) March 18, 2013
Williams also noted on Twitter that two days ago she celebrated the big 5-0 with cast members from her new play, “The Trip to Bountiful.” The actress is starring in the Broadway revival of Horton Foote’s play, alongside Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. and Oscar nominee Cicely Tyson. Williams and Gooding Jr. will play the children of Carrie Watts (Tyson), an older woman who longs to return to her hometown of Bountiful, Texas.
The Broadway production, which will take place at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, will begin previews March 30 for a 14-week limited engagement, and officially debut April 23. Williams’ last foray onto the Great White Way was in “Sondheim on Sondheim” last year.
The birthday girl is keeping busy on the big screen, too, as she will also be seen on the big screen at the end of this month with a supporting role in the latest Tyler Perry flick, “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.” Among her co-stars? Kim Kardashian, who judging by the trailer, plays her receptionist in the film. The movie is out in theaters March 29; check out the trailer below.
