Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) and Twitch, the world's largest video platform and community for gamers, announced today a partnership that will allow for a first-of-its-kind experience that is sure to expand. The two have teamed up to allow gamers to stream their gaming sessions from the free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter (MMOFPS) PlanetSide 2 with just a click of a button. What this means is a seamless, non-disruptive live broadcast for which online communities have been clamoring.

“At SOE we believe very strongly in providing deeper social and emergent game play experiences,” said John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment. “With more than 21 million PlanetSide 2 minutes streamed to date, the ability for our players to broadcast their game play directly to Twitch will provide Twitch's huge user base a chance to see the massive scale battles in PlanetSide 2 for themselves. We’ve gone out of our way to make the interface extremely easy to use and allow players to cast with just one-click.”

Here at Warp Pipe, we enjoy sharing our video game experiences with actual video content from our reviews. Now with PlanetSide 2 as the inaugural title in the Twitch and SOE partnership, gamers can anticipate a slew of other games that they will be able to share with their friends online.

“We’re in discussions with the industry’s largest developers and publishers, so there’s no question that integrating turnkey live broadcasting into games is the future of this industry,” said Matthew DiPietro, VP of marketing at Twitch. “With SOE being the first to illustrate the appeal of instant in-game streaming on Twitch, we couldn’t ask for a better partner to validate this movement.”

I can remember back in the '90s telling my friends about those amazing Mortal Kombat fatalities that I pulled off before they got their stab at them and boy, were they hard to convince without evidence. Now, with PlanetSide 2, all of those spectacular dogfights can be captured on video.

Bragging rights have just been made possible thanks to SOE and Twitch.
