KEY EVENT: Coiled spring. The busiest week of spring sees a Federal Reserve meeting along with key reports on jobs, the economy, housing and a torrent of corporate earnings releases.

MONDAY: Pending home sales for March from the National Association of Realtors. Earnings: Corning, Denny's.

TUESDAY: Case-Shiller home prices for February. Earnings: eBay, Forest Labs, Merck, Twitter.

WEDNESDAY: The Federal Reserve issues its post-meeting economic assessment, which is expected to include an update on its controversial bond-buying strategy. Also, the Commerce Department posts its initial accounting of first-quarter GDP. And ADP releases its report on private-sector jobs created in April. Earnings: Carle Place gift seller 1-800-Flowers.com, Westbury bank company New York Community Bancorp, Time Warner.

THURSDAY: Carmakers release motor-vehicle sales for April. Also, personal income and spending for March from the Commerce Department and claims for jobless benefits for the week ended April 26 from the Labor Department. Earnings: Uniondale real estate investor Arbor Realty Trust, Garden City kitchenware seller Lifetime Brands, MasterCard, Viacom.

FRIDAY: Unemployment and jobs created in April from the Labor Department. Also, factory orders for March from the Commerce Department. Earnings: CVS Caremark, Chevron.
