MONDAY: New home sales for July from the Commerce Department.

TUESDAY: Case-Shiller home prices for June. In May's report, home prices in the New York metropolitan area hit a 2014 high. Also, the Federal Housing Finance Agency posts single-family home prices for June. And the Commerce Department releases durable goods orders for July. Earnings: Best Buy.

WEDNESDAY: Earnings from Jack Daniels owner Brown-Forman, Tiffany and clothing retailer Tilly's.

THURSDAY: The National Association of Realtors releases pending home sales for July. Because these houses are under contract but not yet sold, it is a look ahead at expected home sales a few months from now. Also, the Commerce Department posts a revised estimate of second-quarter GDP. And jobless benefits claims for the week ended Aug. 23 from the Labor Department. Earnings: Port Washington filtrations systems maker Pall.

FRIDAY: Personal income and spending in July from the Commerce Department and consumer sentiment in August from the University of Michigan.
