KEY EVENT: Holiday gift guide. Summer is still two weeks away, but you can preview games and gadgets that will vie for sales this holiday season when the Electronic Entertainment Expo kicks off Tuesday. Among the exhibitors at the annual three-day trade show at the Los Angeles Convention Center are Microsoft, Electronic Arts and Sony.

MONDAY: Earnings from telecommunications provider IDT and Triangle Petroleum.

TUESDAY: The National Federation of Independent Business posts its May small business owners optimism index. In April the index rose to a post-recession high. Earnings: Burlington Stores, women's apparel seller Christopher & Banks, car service chain Pep Boys.

WEDNESDAY: The nation's surplus or deficit in May from the Treasury Department. Earnings: H&R Block, Men's Wearhouse.

THURSDAY: The Commerce Department releases retail sales for May and business inventories for April. And two reports from the Labor Department: claims for jobless benefits for the week ended June 7 and import and export prices for May.

FRIDAY: Wholesale prices in May from the Labor Department. The report is seen as an early indicator if inflation is heating up. Also, the University of Michigan releases consumer sentiment for early June.
