KEY EVENT: Weather beaten?. Weather beaten? Did this winter's coldest and snowiest month have a chilling effect on unemployment and put a halt to 2013's local jobs recovery? Answers come Tuesday when the State Labor Department reports on Long Island jobless rates in January. The previous jobs report, for December, showed local unemployment at its lowest level since October 2008.

MONDAY: Earnings from weight-loss products maker Medifast and apparel seller Urban Outfitters.

TUESDAY: The small-business optimism index for January from the National Federation of Independent Business.

WEDNESDAY: Earnings from apparel seller Express, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Vail Resorts.

THURSDAY: The U.S. Labor Department issues reports on claims for jobless benefits for the week ended March 8 and import and export prices for January. The Commerce Department reports on retail sales and business inventories, both for January. Earnings: Garden City kitchenware seller Lifetime Brands.

FRIDAY: If the cold winter meant higher costs for producers of goods and services and forced them to increase prices, the results will appear in the Labor Department's release of producer prices for January. Also, consumer sentiment for early March from the University of Michigan.
